Frequently Asked Questions about Corvette C3 Decoding
How do I check if the engine in my 1968–1982 Corvette C3 is original to the car?
Enter the full VIN into the VIN Decoder tool to get the production sequence number (last 6 digits). Then go to the Engine Code Decoder, enter the full engine code (plant + date + suffix) stamped on the block → compare the last 6 digits of the partial VIN with your car's sequence number. If they match exactly, the engine is numbers matching / original. More detailed guidance is available on the Engine Code Decoder page.
How do I find out the interior color and whether it's leather or vinyl?
Locate the interior trim code on the trim tag (for example 192, 400, 413) → enter it into the Trim Tag Decoder tool. You will instantly see the factory material type (vinyl / leather / cloth) and the full color name (e.g. Black vinyl, Red leather, Camel leather).
How do I know what engine I have and what it tells about horsepower and transmission?
Find the full engine code stamped on the rear of the engine block (e.g. V0101CLJ or T1205ZQ3) → enter it into the Engine Code Decoder tool. It will decode the exact engine type, horsepower specification, transmission pairing, emissions package and assembly plant.
How can I identify if my Quadrajet is original and when it was made?
Look for the 1705xxxx identification number on top of the carburetor (e.g. 17057204) → enter it into the Quadrajet Decoder tool. It will show the carburetor’s production year, month and exact application (e.g. L82, LS5), and the 4‑digit date code reveals the precise week of manufacture.
